Are you one of the drivers who drives for Uber part-time?

Do you find it hard for you to make a nice stream of income driving for Uber part-time?

You’re not alone, there’re so many drivers just like you who are on the same boat as you are.

During the earlier days of Uber and Lyft we did not have too much trouble making a nice stream of income.

However, with the price cut we find it a bit difficult to make as much money as we would like. Uber company has been cutting its price for three consecutive years.

This past January we were hit with the latest one. This one has hit us the hardest given that the prices are at their lowest.

Many drivers reacted by quitting while many of us managed to keep driving. Some of us drive full-time, while a huge number of us are only able to drive part-time.

Unfortunately, working part-time at the current pay rate requires us to work lots more to make the same amount of money that we used to make from just a few trips.

Don’t think it’s the end for you if you can only work part-time, because it’s actually not. Do you want to know why?

Keep reading, I will share with you the best time you should drive for Uber part-time to make good money.

Although each city maybe different, our social habits don’t differ much. As a result it’s very simple to know when you should or shouldn’t drive.

Let’s get to this short list that I was able to compile for you.

#1) Drive early mornings

If you can get to bed early and wake up very early, you should consider working during this period of time.

Starting from 3:00 AM is usually the beginning of lots of requests for rides. Either you’re an Uber driver or Lyft driver, you can make good money at this time.

Depend on your city the time that’s less busy may be something that you would have to find out yourself, but for me in south Florida it’s usually 9:00 AM.

But it’s very important that you take a good night sleep before you start driving. It’s a very bad idea to drive drowsy. Specially for a driver who’s been given the trust of his or her passengers.

It’s a no, no.

Center For Disease Control (CDC) states that:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that drowsy driving was responsible for 72,000 crashes, 44,000 injuries, and 800 deaths in 2013.4 However, these numbers are underestimated and up to 6,000 fatal crashes each year may be caused by drowsy drivers.

These numbers speak for themselves, I don’t think I have anything more to add on this concerning drowsy driving.

#2) Drive during rush hours

This one is common sense, rush hours are usually the best period of time to drive if you’re driving for Uber or Lyft.

During rush hours there’re more riders than there are drivers which causes Uber to offer surging in prices.

You should try to take this advantage because we don’t often see surging during these period of time if it’s not for rush hours.

#3) Drive during weekends

If you had to choose the best time to drive for Uber or Lyft, weekends would be your top pick.

Although Thursdays aren’t considered to be weekend days, riders start going out to bars starting from Thursdays.

According to Peter Ashlock, “Thursday is much like Sunday in that there are many young people out “rehearsing their drinking” for the weekend.”

I agree with Ashlock on this one. For example, in the city of Tampa, FL. many bars or clubs would have college night during Thursday nights.

It’s just a way to get those college students out to come drink while those bars are making money from them :).

As an Uber driver you can take this opportunity to make some money because those students are not going to drive themselves.

They would usually request for a ride to go there as well as to get back home.

#4) Drive during sporting events

Game nights are good examples of where you can make money when you drive for Uber part-time.

After a sport’s game it always hard with traffics. Cars are in chains, bumper to bumper which makes it so difficult for the fans to get home.

many of them choose not to drive since they know they can rely on either Uber or Lyft.

You won’t regret it if you try to catch some fares after a sporting event. There’re usually high surge in prices.

Uber makes it easier for you if there are barricades on the roads. They usually tell drivers where they should wait for pings and where they can pick up their riders.

#5) Drive during bad weather

A bad weather comes with many ride requests. If you’re driving for Uber part-time you should take advantage of that.

When it’s raining we usually see surging in prices. I don’t know why it happens but it usually be the case.

As a part-time Uber driver you can make some nice paying trips while it’s raining. You may not like to drive in bad weather, but if you do, why not drive and make the money?

#6) Drive during other big events

There are many other big events that can make you lots of money if you drive for Uber. For example, an artist’s concert could be one of them.

Fans would be more likely to take an Uber instead of driving during those times. It’s a hassle for them to find parking spots.

If they’re lucky and find somewhere to park, they may find it very difficult to leave the parking lot after the concert.

That’s why many of them prefer to ride with Uber to get to a concert as well as to get them back home safe.

The price cut has made it hard for Uber drivers to make money, but it does not mean making money driving for Uber is now impossible.

You can still make money driving for Uber part-time as well. What you want to know is when can you make the most out of your short time.
